In recent years, many lovers of “wildlife” have dogs of so-called fighting breeds living in apartments for not quite clear purposes, that is, breeds bred specifically for participation in dog fights – life and death fights. Such dogs are characterized by a very distorted psyche with respect to the norm and require special conditions of detention, which few of the owners observe. It is these dogs that pose a real danger for our leopards and little chicks who have come out to bask in the spring sun. And to tell the truth – and for bobs, balls, rexics and charliks - lap dogs, which their owners and owners (often elderly people) took to walk on the lawn near the house.
It is unlikely that you can teach a domestic cat to understand the intricacies of canine pedigrees. For a cat, a dog is a dog. A fussy, foul-smelling, noisy and annoying creature, looking at ridiculous jumps and whose snake, however, can be amused. And in case of emergency – and thoroughly intimidate: how to hiss, make a “tail” (fluff it up to a size almost larger than the dog itself) and show sharp claws. Having shown excessive activity, the unfortunate shaggy aggressor can get a worthy rebuff and get acquainted with the properties of cat claws closer, in the literal sense of the word – on his own skin. And with some dogs, despite the unpleasant smell and fussiness, you can even make friends – it is fun to play, and then, imagining, a good “think” of each other with tongues, yes, and fall asleep – almost in an embrace! In the house where the kitten and the puppy grew up together, you will not surprise anyone with such a state of affairs. But you don’t have a dog, you only have a little cat. Your friends, who live a cat and a dog together, without quarreling, but on the contrary, touchingly caring for each other, want to come to visit you with their good-natured, calm kind-hearted Rex. “Your baby and our Rex will definitely make friends! – friends assure you. – but he is really capable of inflicting harm on a kitten! He brings up Asi kittens on an equal footing with his mother!” calm good-natured Rex. “Your baby and our Rex will definitely make friends! – friends assure you. – but he is really capable of inflicting harm on a kitten! He brings up Asi kittens on an equal footing with his mother!” calm good-natured Rex. “Your baby and our Rex will definitely make friends! – friends assure you. – but he is really capable of inflicting harm on a kitten! He brings up kittens on an equal footing with his mother!”
Do not agree to the proposal of your friends. At least for the time being. There is no doubt that the dog will not touch the cat, but most likely, as the owners of the dog assure, he will treat him like a father, or rather, like a mother, since male dogs (males) have no paternal instinct. But this is precisely the danger! A cat, accustomed to playing with a peace-loving dog of your friends, may underestimate the characteristics of the representatives of the dog tribe, taken in general, when he finally happens to get acquainted with the world around him – that is, go out into the yard, into the street.
Seeing a dog, the kitten will not hide in a secluded place until it passes the shelter and moves away. A cat or kitty will not take an overtly threatening pose, having fallen into a “face to face” position (that is, – muzzle to muzzle) with a fierce opponent. Your naive pet, once misinformed about the habits of dogs, may become a victim of a real bloody tragedy.
My friend told me how, literally in front of her eyes, a huge pedigree dog (and – a bitch, and females of any predators are much more merciful to the cubs of other predators than males) pounced on a pregnant cat, which was due to give birth not today or tomorrow, literally tore it apart and was about to devour the unborn kittens, but the owner who arrived in time managed, with some difficulty, to drag the brutal creature away from the victim. The cat died, and my friend took the kids, who were already quite viable, from the scene and tried to feed them. One of the cubs survived and was subsequently placed safely in good hands.
The acquaintance of your cat with a dog – the first acquaintance – should be negative! Of course, in no case should the matter be brought to a tragedy. But letting some obviously gentle, but noisy and annoying, dog scare your pet – you can and should! Then, when the kitten grows up and enriches its life experience with meetings with different dogs living nearby – in your yard, on your street – then you say “welcome” to the glorious Rex, who dreams of coming to visit you and play with your baby and, of course, also to its owners.
